Welcome to the Sanchez Lab of Urban Ecology and Animal Behavior

We study how wildlife adapts to life in cities. Our work focuses primarily on birds, using them as model systems to explore how behavior, communication, and ecological interactions change in urban environments. Through fieldwork, community science, and quantitative approaches, we aim to understand not only how animals persist in cities, but how urban environments shape their lives over time.

At the same time, we recognize that cities are shaped by social and environmental inequalities. Our research connects ecology with these broader systems, asking how human histories and decisions influence the distribution of biodiversity in urban spaces.

I (Dr. Sanchez) am also deeply committed to mentorship, inclusive science, and supporting students from diverse backgrounds as they develop as researchers.
